The land acknowledgement banner is a reminder to keep listening to Indigenous voices, learning the histories of the lands we live on and turning acknowledgement into meaningful action...every day of the year.

Reconciliation doesn't begin and end in September.

Reconciliation doesn't begin and end in September.

Some of the most meaningful learning happens in the small moments throughout the school year. The books we read, the voices we include, the questions we ask, the relationships we build.

If you're looking for simple ways to weave Indigenous perspectives into your classroom beyond one month or one lesson, this post is a good place to start 💛

Which of these ideas do you already do? Which one are you excited to try this year? 📖

September 30 matters.

But Indigenous education cannot begin and end with residential schools, Orange Shirt Day, or one day on the calendar.

Our students deserve to learn the truth about residential schools and colonialism. They also deserve opportunities to learn about living Indigenous cultures, languages, knowledge, art, community, joy, resistance, and futures.

Indigenous Peoples are not only part of Canada’s past. We are here now.

Tomorrow, wear orange. Remember. Learn.

And then keep going. 🧡

Okayyy I had to keep the backpack in the photo so you could actually see how BIG this turns out 😂

This collaborative Orange Shirt Day puzzle is made from 25 individual student pieces and comes together to create one large shirt display.

I included a few different versions so you can choose what works best for your class:

• a blank version for colouring or decorating
• a writing prompt version
• a version where students can add their names

Each student completes one piece, then the class puts them all together to create the finished shirt.

A simple way to get everyone involved in the learning leading up to September 30th 🧡

Would you use the blank version or the writing prompt version with your class?
