Medicine Wheel Collaborative Poster Activity
Create a meaningful Medicine Wheel collaborative poster while exploring Indigenous education, wellness, balance, and classroom community. This collaborative art activity includes two large Medicine Wheel poster designs that students colour individually before assembling the pieces together to create a beautiful classroom display.
This hands-on Medicine Wheel activity works well for Indigenous education, social-emotional learning, health and wellness lessons, art activities, and classroom community building.
2 Medicine Wheel Collaborative Poster Designs
This resource includes:
☀︎ Indigenous Art Medicine Wheel Poster
A collaborative Medicine Wheel featuring Indigenous animal artwork throughout the four quadrants.
☀︎ Medicine Wheel Wellness Poster
A collaborative poster featuring images and words representing four interconnected areas of wellness: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual.
Each large poster is divided into individual printable sections. Give each student one piece to colour, then assemble all of the completed pages together to reveal the finished Medicine Wheel collaborative poster.
A Collaborative Classroom Art Activity
Every student contributes one part of the finished artwork, making this a fun way to combine Indigenous education and collaborative art.
Students can use crayons, coloured pencils, markers, or another classroom art material to complete their individual sections.
Once assembled, the finished Medicine Wheel can be used as a:
☀︎ Classroom display
☀︎ Bulletin board
☀︎ Indigenous education display
☀︎ Wellness classroom display
☀︎ SEL display
☀︎ Collaborative class art project
Because each student contributes a section, every finished poster will look a little different.
Medicine Wheel Wellness and SEL Connections
The wellness poster provides a visual representation of four interconnected areas of well-being:
♡ Mental
♡ Emotional
♡ Physical
♡ Spiritual
It can be used alongside lessons and conversations about balance, holistic wellness, self-awareness, social-emotional learning, and the ways different parts of our well-being are connected.
Indigenous Education Classroom Activity
This Medicine Wheel art activity can support learning during:
☀︎ Indigenous education lessons
☀︎ Social-emotional learning
☀︎ Health and wellness units
☀︎ Art lessons
☀︎ Classroom community activities
☀︎ Indigenous Peoples Day learning
☀︎ National Indigenous History Month
☀︎ Year-round Indigenous education
Medicine Wheel teachings are not the same across all Indigenous Peoples. Meanings, colours, directions, animals, and teachings can vary between Nations, communities, and Knowledge Keepers, and not all Indigenous Peoples use the Medicine Wheel. Teachers are encouraged to connect classroom learning with local and Nation-specific knowledge whenever possible.
The finished Medicine Wheel collaborative posters create an engaging classroom display while giving students an opportunity to learn, create, and contribute to a shared piece of artwork.
