Indigenous Veterans Day Activity & Remembrance Day Art – Giant Collaborative Poppy
Looking for a meaningful Indigenous Veterans Day activity or Remembrance Day art project for your classroom? This giant collaborative poppy brings students together to learn about Indigenous veterans while creating a powerful Remembrance Day Canada classroom display.
Each student completes one of 25 individual poppy pieces. Students can learn about an Indigenous veteran, write their veteran’s name, respond to a simple prompt, or decorate their piece before the class assembles all 25 pages into one giant poppy.

A Collaborative Remembrance Day Activity
This Remembrance Day poppy art project allows every student to contribute to one large classroom display. Each poppy section prints on its own standard 8.5 x 11 inch page, giving students plenty of room to colour, decorate, draw, or write.
Once students have completed their individual pieces, teachers use the included numbered assembly guide to put the giant poppy together.
The finished collaborative poppy is perfect for a classroom wall, hallway, school display, or Remembrance Day bulletin board.
Multiple Activity Options

Blank Poppy Pieces
Students colour and decorate their individual pieces. This option is easy to adapt for a wide range of ages.
Veteran Name Version
Students learn about an Indigenous veteran, write the veteran’s name on their poppy piece, and decorate the shape.
Writing Prompt Version
Students respond to simple prompts connected to Indigenous veterans, remembrance, and what they have learned.
These options make it easy to use the same collaborative project with different grade levels and abilities.
Learn About Indigenous Veterans
Students can each learn about a different Indigenous veteran before completing their poppy piece. A teacher reference page featuring 20 Indigenous veterans provides a starting point for classroom learning and research.
Teachers may also choose to have students learn about Indigenous veterans from their own local area or the Nations and communities whose territories they live and learn on.
