This Indigenous Seven Sacred Teachings activity bundle expands on the 7 Sacred Teachings, students dive in and learn ALL about the animals that Indigenous communities traditionally admire and love, The 7 Sacred animals + a bonus animal (the orca!) Students will discover the cultural significance behind each animal & creature & complete multiple Seven Sacred Teaching activities.
The Bear:
Learn all about black bears, their lifecycle, diet, habitat, bear safety and the Indigenous importance. Students will complete two fun activities; a maze and a colouring page.
The Eagle:
Learn all about the bald eagle, an Indigenous icon. This lesson will cover lifecycle, bald eagle appearance, diet, eagle feathers and a Indigenous art colouring sheet.
The Wolf:
Learn about the wolves that live in Canada! Wolf packs, lifecycle, their diet, wolf populations, the types of wolves who reside in Canada and the Indigenous significance to the wolf.
Indigenous Story of Sasquatch:
Learn about the Indigenous legend of Sasquatch / Bigfoot, understand its cultural significance, and engage in a creative activity to imagine and depict their own version of Sasquatch.
The Buffalo:
Learn about the buffalo (and bison), the cultural significance, conservation efforts, appearance, diet, and much more. Students will complete an activity on respect.
The Beaver:
Learn all about beavers, their dams, diet, appearance, life cycle, building skills and about the Indigenous meaning (wisdom)
The Turtle:
Learn about freshwater turtles, species found in Canada, diet, turtle conservation, turtle habitat and the Indigenous significance of the turtle.
The Orca Whale: (Bonus – not part of the 7 Sacred Teachings)
Learn all about the orca whale (killer whale) with this 3-page handout and art activity! Whale pods, lifecycle, Indigenous significance, and more! Complete a orca directed drawing activity.
