Looking for a meaningful French land acknowledgement activity? This printable resource helps students understand why land acknowledgements matter, learn about the lands where they live and create a thoughtful class acknowledgement entirely in French.
Four activities guide students through the learning and reflection that should come before writing a reconnaissance territoriale. Students learn about their local Indigenous Nation or Nations, reflect on a treasured place and contribute ideas to a collaborative class acknowledgement.

Create a Class Land Acknowledgement in French
Students work together to create a class land acknowledgement based on what they have learned. Rather than simply copying a prepared statement, they reflect on land, place, local Indigenous Nations and their responsibilities as learners.
Before completing the activity, educators should confirm local Nation names, spelling, pronunciation and preferred territorial language through official Nation or community sources.
