Grade 3 Landforms Booklet & Activities with Indigenous Connections

Explore Grade 3 landforms through reading, drawing, labelling, and a hands-on erosion investigation! This printable landforms booklet helps students identify natural features of Earth’s surface, discover how wind, water, and ice change the land, and learn about Indigenous place names.

Created by a Nuučaan̓ułʔatḥ educator, this resource connects landform science with a Tla-o-qui-aht example and a guided investigation of a place near your school. It supports BC Grade 3 Science learning about local landforms, erosion and deposition, and local First Peoples knowledge.

Landforms students will explore

These Grade 3 landforms worksheets introduce mountains, hills, valleys, canyons, plains, plateaus, islands, peninsulas, beaches, riverbeds, and deltas. Students also learn how glaciers help shape the land.

The landform activities give students opportunities to identify features, compare shapes, draw diagrams, and explain their observations. The separate water investigation helps students see erosion and deposition in action.

Learning about local places

Students learn how the name tinwis, meaning “calm beach,” shares information about a specific place. Teachers then guide students through a local investigation using information shared by the First Nation connected to their chosen landform.

Use this printable landforms booklet during your Grade 3 science lessons, small-group learning, or homeschool instruction.

Format: Printable PDF. Student booklet pages are half of an 8.5 × 11-inch sheet. The separate investigation sheet is full-page.

Teacher preparation: Select a local First Nation’s resource for the place-based investigation. The hands-on activity requires a tray, damp sand or soil, and water.

A practical addition to your BC Grade 3 science landforms lessons, with opportunities to connect classroom learning to the land around you.
